Wade T. Smith, APRN, FNP-BC, breaks down the herbal soap he makes for his patients: calendula, rosemary, stinging nettle and neem oil in a base of olive oil, lard and coconut oil, and what each ingredient does for the skin.
Video Transcript
This is an herbal soap that I made for my patients to support their skin and the resiliency of the skin. This soap contains calendula, rosemary, stinging nettle and neem oil.
Rosemary is known to have antioxidant properties as well as to be somewhat antimicrobial. It also improves skin circulation. Calendula has been traditionally used for wound healing, or for helping wounds that have become infected. Neem oil is used to support the skin in fighting off fungal and bacterial microbes. Stinging nettle supports the skin with minerals and nutrition.
The base oils in this are olive oil, lard, coconut oil and the neem oil. All of these work together to provide supportive care for inflamed skin. This is easy to make. You can make it at home. I also make it as a garden herb soap that I have available if you don’t want to make it at home.
